ламский городок в забайкалье

Transbaikal is the land of contrasts and increadible variety: Забайкалье – территория контрастов и невероятного разнообразия: lost volcanos, caves, rock engravings, plate graves, skerries, stone merchants’ houses, carved wooden chambers, sacred places, healing springs, primary nature…

Tourists just have to choose whatever they consider the most interesting and unusual. Not that easy to pick several places out of all. To see everything within one visit doesn’t seem to be possible. That’s why people keep coming back to explore our region and every time they find somthing they haven’t see before.

The Land of Contrasts

Mother-nature in Transbaikal managed to combine things that were never supposed to exist side by side. Not to be prooflеss: there’s Kodar mountain surrounded by Chara desert (a.k.a. Chara sands). The desert’s sandhills and patterned dunes height reach 35 meters (≈115 feet). Its oases are covered with larch, pine and cedar instedad of palms. As winters comes snow covers dunes and the spring brings along Transbaikal purple snowdrops. However, it is not possible to die of neaither heat nor thirst. The reason is surrounding siberian taiga. A traveler sees deep long ravines with high-water rivers at the bottom. Quite often this place is called «the most inadequate desert»

The Reserved District

There are 94 highly protected nature territories altogether within Transbaikal Territory. 8 of them have federal status, the rest – regional.

Federal highly protected nature areas: state natural biospheric reservatios «Dahurian» and «Sokhondinskiy», national parks «Alkhanai», «Chikoi» and «Kodar», federal closed woods «Tsasucheiskiy Bor» and «Dzeren’s Valley» and federal nature monument «Glaciers of Kodar».

Decembrists’ Path

Alexander Pushkin’s messege: «In the depths of sibrian mines….» was sddressed to small ssettlement called Chita, present capital of the region. This town was discussed in the finest salons of Russian Empire and Europe in the first quatter of 19th century.

Chita stockade kept 85 decembrists. 11 wifes willingly followed their husbands despite Emperor’s permission to be officially divorced.

Deceembrists brought to Chita farmng, gardening, flowering, science and culture .

You can learn the history of decembrists in the Decembrists’ Museum in Chita. It is situated in the oldest building of the town – Archangel Michael’s Church. This is where decembrists and their wives got married, used to pray and seek spiritual relief.

Multiconfessional Transbaikal

Transbaikal land is the place where lots of historical events, lots of people’s lives, different national cultures and religions got mixed up. Our region kept and united customs and traditions of native siberian peoples, shaman’s mystics, chainless spirit of cossaks-pioneers and convicted rebelions who before that were lords.

There are followers of all four world main religions in Transbaikal Territory: Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and Judaism. Christian churches, lamaist temples, mosque and synagogue managed to coexist on a half kilometer long area in Chita. Our Region Is Famous For Lamaist Temples

Shamans are still the essential mystical symbol of our region. And they still perform their ancient rituals and speak with ghosts.

The Land of Narzans

There are more than 300 mineral springs on the territory of the region. Transbaikal is included in the province of cold carbon dioxide hydrocarbonated magnesium calcium waters. Their compositions are most similar to Narzan in Kislovodsk on the Caucasus.

First resorts based on mineral springs were established before revolution and attracted a great amount of visitors. Today there are several active resorts based on mineral springs.
